Bluetooth Audio

Services

In addition to engineering, Wiser Devices provides wrap-around services designed to de-risk product development bottlenecks. We like to think creatively about what can get our customers' products to market more quickly.

Testing

Testing services can be an effective way to have a trust-but-verify approach to receiving products or firmware updates from a CM. This can cut down on potentially costly mistakes involved with shipping products that don’t meet the brand’s standards. Wiser Devices works with companies to establish test plans that address their concerns, and then provides automated fixtures or performs the tests in-house.

App Development

App development is a crucial part of most Bluetooth audio products. Wiser Devices specializes in building demo apps for internal use. This allows wireless connectivity of firmware and hardware to be tested throughout development. It avoids having testing get held up by the consumer facing app teams that are busy dealing with UI improvements.

Firmware

The bread and butter of Wiser Devices’ experience comes from custom firmware development. It is our specialty. To address the needs of our Bluetooth audio clients, we have a Qualcomm Bluetooth developer’s license and work extensively with the most current Qualcomm audio chipsets.

Project Leadership

During complex engineering projects, communication problems with the contract manufacturer can be a significant source of delays. In these cases, Wiser Devices can step in as a day-to-day resource on a project. This includes participating in project phone calls and WeChat. Speaking the technical language of firmware and embedded systems in these situations can prevent miscommunication before it happens.

Qualcomm Firmware

Of all the engineering activities required for product development, firmware requires frequent communication. Bringing firmware development on-shore can help reduce product development projects by as much as 6 months and save as much as $1M in lost revenue. Wiser Devices supports the full range of Qualcomm audio SoCs to help get customers’ products to market more quickly.

Models: Snapdragon S7, QCC3021, QCC3024, QCC3031, QCC3034, QCC3040, QCC3056, CC3071, QCC3081, QCC3083, QCC3084, QCC3086, QCC3091, QCC3095, QCC5124, QCC5125, QCC5126, QCC5144, QCC5151, QCC5171, QCC5181

Quick turn

Wiser Devices maintains room in its schedule to support quick-turn projects. In one case, a company needed to perform a root-cause analysis to find a bug in Qualcomm firmware on a QCC5100 series chip. Wiser Devices was able to estimate a 2 week timeline and delivered a tested solution with daily updates.

Test automation

The Wiser Devices testing service is designed on a case-by-case basis for each customer. Fuzz testing provides a user focused testing exercise for firmware. It can identify issues like poorly coordinated LEDs, or edge cases the reset a device. RF (Radio Frequency) testing can provide insights into the Bluetooth distance issues a device may have. Audio analysis testing isolates the acoustic properties of the device. It provides an early warning for issues related to distortion and latency.

IOT747 and IDC777

Wiser Devices maintains an official partnership with the Qualcomm module vendor IOT747. Their module, the IDC777, allows users to incorporate the newest features of Bluetooth Auracast and LE Audio into their devices with the least friction possible. Not only does it support the newest LE Audio standards, it is also backwards compatible with Bluetooth Classic. As leading experts in the field, their module performs at the highest level and has been incorporated into some of the leading brands in the world.

Client Testimonials

"Jackson has been invaluable in supporting our full-time team with Bluetooth architecture trade studies, firmware development, system testing, and troubleshooting. He combines theoretical knowledge, engineering judgment, and significant practical hands-on experience to shorten development time and get us un-stuck when needed. He understands the financial and schedule needs of startups and adapts well to changing priorities and situations. He works professionally and amicably with hardware and software engineers of all experience levels, frequently suggesting a faster route to solving a problem, communicating effectively, and teaching others as well as learning from them. He stays cool under stress and is a pleasure to work with."

Michael

CTO

"Jackson’s involvement in the development of a technically complex Bluetooth headphone was instrumental.  He helped to navigate a multitude of technical challenges, as well as manage and align competing priorities from multiple stakeholders. His ability to provide support wherever needed throughout the course of the project was invaluable."

Zach

Product Manager

"Jackson has been an invaluable addition to our team. His expertise spans a wide range of architectures, from general RTOS to specialized platforms like Zephyr and the Nordic SDK, greatly contributing to our rapid and effective prototyping, as well as debugging efforts for both firmware and hardware. Originally brought on board to assist a junior engineer with a Bluetooth project, Jackson quickly became a go-to resource for all team members, providing support across various tasks. His contributions include everything from backend firmware development to UI design for investor demos, and even establishing a roadmap for software documentation. It's hard to think of something he can't do!"

Alex

Firmware Engineer

"We worked with Jackson on an audio chipset bring up project. Jackson was very easy to work/communicate with, and he was able to deliver what we needed on a tight timeline, as well as delivering a complete and well documented solution for the long term."
